Lesbia, an influential rural leader from El Nance, Honduras, faces the challenges of climate change and poverty head-on. Participating in an iDE program since 2018, she has transformed her farm into a sustainable haven. Despite harsh conditions, Lesbia managed to improve water conservation and crop yields by using an improved variety of corn seeds and local practices.
By adopting an eco-oven, she reduced carbon emissions and boosted her bakery business. With smart water management techniques like treadle pumps and drip irrigation, she diversified her income by growing vegetables and fruits. These changes have not only improved her family's diet but also contributed to a healthier environment.
Lesbia's success story inspired others in her community to follow suit, showcasing how women can lead sustainable farming efforts.
What's next for Lesbia
Lesbia hopes to improve the soil quality in her farm and take advantage of the branches to use as fuel for the eco-oven. She also hopes to establish a small energy bank for firewood and share knowledge with other women to promote the benefits of these technologies in Lesbia’s home.

iDE was started as a radical idea that business is a solution to move people out of poverty. 40 years later, we still don't give things away. We create long term change by powering entrepreneurs to end poverty for their families and communities.
