Germán Jiménez operates a farm in the middle-lower zone of the Goascoran River in Honduras. This zone has seen hardship due to a dramatic shortage of spring rainfall.
But Germán has not let this unnaturally dry season stop him from finding and applying new strategies to grow food. With iDE’s guidance, he has been taking advantage of the local resources he already has in his farm like the use of organic fertilizers and creating natural barriers using native plants to protect against erosion and wind.
Through productive diversification as a climate-smart strategy, Germán has been able to produce a variety of fruits and vegetables to generate income for his family. Currently, he sells his products in the town of Caridad.
Germán's farm serves as an inspiration to his community, motivating other families to follow his lead. He takes pride in sharing agricultural advice and ideas with his neighbors, while his wife actively volunteers in community health initiatives. Together, they provide nutritional guidance to pregnant women and children, promoting healthy lifestyles.
What's next for Germán
Germán aims to enhance the presence of living natural barriers along the walking trails surrounding his farm to minimize erosion. Additionally, he envisions transforming his land into an ecotourism farm, creating job opportunities within his community.

iDE was started as a radical idea that business is a solution to move people out of poverty. 40 years later, we still don't give things away. We create long term change by powering entrepreneurs to end poverty for their families and communities.
